Creating legends, important steps

You can use legends to analyze the information contained in architectural elements, smart symbols and so on.

Using the Define Legend tool, you can perform quantity takeoffs interactively and analyze architectural component-related data in the active drawing files. The legend is placed in the drawing file and adjusts associatively to the changes of the components.

The form and content of a legend are fully user-definable. You can customize the legend layout for your needs.

A legend can consist of the following parts:

• Cells, text and lines
  

  These are the basic elements that make up every list. Data is analyzed in cells; text and lines are layout elements.

• Head
• Row
• Subtotal
• Final total

How to create a legend

Creating a legend basically involves the following steps:

1. Define the layout (using the tools in the Draft module) and the individual cells using Define Cell.
2. Do the following using Define Legend:
   • Assign all the elements you create to different regions in the legend (head, row, sub-total and total).
   • You can define a selection criterion for the legend under construction.
     For example: Analyze all walls thicker than 24 cm
   • A legend that you have already defined can be integrated into the legend under construction, in order to define sub-lists.
   • Once the elements have been assigned successfully and the definition of the legend is complete, you can add the legend to the others in the legend manager.

How to modify existing legends

Existing legends can be modified with the Modify Legends tool.

You can also copy the legends from the Default folder (this is where the legends that come with Allplan are located) to the Office folder and then modify them there to suit your own needs and requirements.

How to use custom custom legends or legends provided with Allplan

To output custom legends or legends that come with Allplan, select the Legend tool.
