Creating a coupler connection to close a small opening

Tool(s): Coupler, Thread, Connecting Bar

You can use Create coupler connection to close small opening to close small openings by creating a coupler connection. Minimum and maximum distances, which are defined by the turnbuckle, position coupler or special connection, must be adhered to. The lengths of the relevant bar segments do not change.

To create a coupler connection to close small openings

1. Click Coupler, Thread, Connecting Bar (How).
   

   Activate Coupler, Thread, Connecting Bar in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Engineering Bar Reinforcement

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Bar Reinforcement

   • Configuration: Engineering Display flyout
2. Select the required manufacturer.

   Note: ARMATURIS does not provide any articles for this tool. A message indicating this is displayed when you click the placement.

3. Select Create coupler connection to close small opening on the context toolbar or click OK if this option has already been selected.
4. Click the placement to which you want to apply a coupler or connecting bar/thread. Requirement: no hooks.

   After having checked the geometry, the program opens the Selection of Articles where you can select a catalog. All the classes and articles that match the current parameters (e.g. diameter, bending shape) are displayed.
   Clicking a manufacturer in the tree view displays information on this manufacturer in the right pane. Click Options ... to specify whether the Selection name or the Company name is displayed in the tree view.

5. Select the relevant coupler and, in the case of the SAH thread bar coupling system, the load type and click OK to confirm the dialog box .
   

   Available couplers and accessories

   The couplers and accessories that are available to you depend on the selected manufacturer.

   • Couplers and accessories of the SAH thread bar coupling system
   • Couplers of the LENTON rebar splicing system
   • BARTEC screwed-sleeve joints
   • ARMATURIS rebar couplers

   After having checked the boundary conditions and the opening dimensions, the program opens the Selection of Articles dialog box again. The connecting bars or thread appropriate to the diameter is/are displayed.

   

   Checking the boundary conditions

   When couplers, threads and connecting bars are created, the program checks certain boundary conditions. When these conditions are not adhered to, the program displays an appropriate message and does not create the relevant couplers, threads and connecting bars.

   The program checks the following boundary conditions:

   • Minimum distance of coupler or lock nut to bend
   • Distance of bars placed (spacing) for end anchorage and partially for coupler connections.
     The minimum distance must be observed when coupler connections are created. Otherwise, the torque wrench cannot be used.

   Note: The program does not check the edge-to-edge offset and the axial spacing between bars placed individually (single placement) or between neighboring placements!
   Observing these conditions is the responsibility of every individual user.

6. Click OK to confirm the dialog box.

   After having checked the boundary conditions again, the program converts the lap joint and adds symbols representing the coupler and the lock nut of the connecting bar or the thread to the placements and the relevant schema bar. The lengths of the relevant bar segments do not change.
   The two placements will get a new mark number if there are more placements of the original marks.
   In addition, the labels for the schema bars include information on the coupler type, lock nut and accessories (if any). Information on the lock nut of the connecting bar or thread is also included. The label for the coupling bar includes the unchanged length of the bar segment and the length including tensioning coupler in brackets provided Label Segment is selected.
   

Notes

• Whereas the name of the coupling system is always included in schema labels for bars with couplers and/or threads as well as for connecting bars, this information only appears in labels for the placement when the Steel grade parameter is selected.
• The BARTEC special connection of the DGB type requires intermediate reinforcement which needs to be connected with the reinforcement around the edge of the opening to be closed. This reinforcement is not automatically created by Allplan. You do not need to take into account the special features.
