Pattern definition

You can use the Split Surface Elements, Archit. Elements tool to split hatching, patterns, fills, bitmaps, style areas and architectural elements (walls, columns, slabs, beams, upstands, rooms, floors, ceilings) into two parts. This can be useful if you need to split up the 3D plan while creating the layout.

Important: If the division line passes through an opening in which you have inserted a smart window or door symbol, this smart symbol doubles. The smart symbol is also listed twice in the items schedule. To list the original number of smart symbols, copy the drawing file before you split the floor plan and perform the evaluations in this copy.

To split areas with surface elements and architectural elements

1. Click Split Surface Elements, Archit. Elements (How).
   

   Activate Split Surface Elements, Archit. Elements in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Draft

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Draft flyout
   • Palette: Tools Change area in the following module(s):

   Draft

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   Rooms, Surfaces, Stories

   Landscaping

   Urban Planning

   Object Manager

   • Configuration: Architecture Architecture Edit flyout
   • Configuration: Landscaping/Urban Planning Modifications flyout
2. Select the elements you want to split.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

3. Enter the division line in one of the following ways:
   • Place the start and end point.
   • Click an existing line or a polyline.

     The element is split into two parts. If individual parts in a component consisting of several parts cannot be split, the system will prompt for the part to which they belong. The division line is still displayed as a construction line on screen and will disappear the next time you refresh the display.
