Openings in walls of the as-built category

When you create building alteration drawings in a component-oriented manner, pay special attention when you create or close openings for windows, doors, niches etc. in walls of the as-built category.

If, for example, you want to insert a new window in an existing wall, you need to mark the new opening with a demolition object in the CAD system. Make sure that this object matches the outline of the opening exactly. This is necessary for correct quantity takeoff operations (usually Demolition work trade) and ensures a correct representation in the layout (usually yellow and crossed out) .

(1) as-built, (2) demolition, (3) new building

If, on the other hand, you want to close a window opening in an existing wall, you need to mark the window as demolition object as well as generate a corresponding new building object of exactly the same outline as the opening in the CAD system. This is necessary for correct quantity takeoff operations (usually Masonry work trade) and ensures a correct representation in the layout (usually red or material-specific hatching style) .

(1) as-built, (2) demolition, (3) new building

When it comes to enlarging an existing opening, the demolition object only covers a part of the new opening (i.e. the part by which the existing opening is enlarged). You can extend an opening to the right/left/top/bottom. You need to take existing reveals, facing, rabbets etc. into account.

(1) as-built, (2) demolition, (3) new building

If you want to change the position of an opening element (e.g. a window), you need to define a demolition object and a new building object. Each object only covers a part of the new/old opening (i.e. the part to be added and the part to be closed with masonry). This can be to the right/left/top/bottom. You need to take existing reveals, facing, rabbets etc. into account.

(1) as-built, (2) demolition, (3) new building

Note: New building elements are usually drawn in a separate drawing file. Windows are an exception as they are always inserted in the associated wall, regardless of whether the drawing file with the wall is current or open in edit mode.

To create demolition and new building objects for openings

You can use the Demolition Object, New Building Object tool to create these objects quickly and easily.

This requires the following steps:

In this chapter

Retaining (inserting) openings of the as-built category

Creating new opening in a wall of the as-built category

Closing an entire opening in a wall of the as-built category

Moving an opening in a wall of the as-built category

Enlarging an opening in a wall of the as-built category

Reducing the size of an opening in a wall of the as-built category

Editing openings in walls with multiple construction layers
