Expanding element groups

Using element groups

You can use the Expand Element Group tool to add elements to an existing element group. The element group is retained.

Bear in mind that only elements in the current drawing file can be grouped. Although you can select elements in drawing files open in edit mode, these elements are ignored.

To expand an element group

1. Click Expand Element Group (How).
   

   Activate Expand Element Group in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Advanced Draft

   • Palette: Tools Change area in the following module(s):

   Advanced Draft

   Smart Symbols

2. Select the element group.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   The element group is displayed in the selection color.

3. Select the elements you want to add to the group one after the other.
4. Press ESC.

   The elements are added to the group.
