Automatic depth placement

Tool(s): Place Mesh Shape

To place existing mesh marks using automatic depth placement

• You have created a bending shape in a 3D general arrangement drawing. To do this, you used the Mesh Shape tool and selected the Reinforce with 3D model option.
• You have finished creating the bending shape by pressing ESC and placed the label, if necessary
  or
  Immediately after creating the bending shape, you selected the Label tool on the shortcut menu and labeled the bending shape
  or
  Immediately after creating the bending shape, you selected the Place Mesh Shape tool on the shortcut menu.

1. Select Linear placement in the list box at the top in the Place Mesh Shape palette.
   Click to open a dialog box, in which all placing modes are displayed graphically.
2. Select the Place automatically option in the input options.

   The bending shape is placed using automatic depth placement.

   Note: When you have created the bending shape in a 3D solid, Allplan only offers to place it automatically if there is an associative view of the 3D solid from which the placing depth can be derived.

3. If you want to define a new placing region, click the button beside Placing line in the palette and click the first and second point of the placing line.
   

   • Click the point.
   • Align to points using the linear snap function and click the point.
   • Define the point by making entries in the dialog line.

   Tip: The shortcut menu and dialog line provide tools and options to assist you in the process of entering points. For more information, see Tools and Options.

4. Define the parameters of the placing region, the reinforcement parameters and the position of the placement.
   Most parameters are also displayed in the graphics area, where you can define them by clicking. The parameter area updates immediately to reflect your entries.
   

   The Layer area displays the placing length for information. You can define the following parameters, which are mutually dependent:

   Mesh offset

   You can define the offset between the individual meshes. Negative values result in an overlap; positive values produce a gap.
   The length of the last mesh is adjusted in accordance with the value you enter.

   End of mesh length

   You can define the length of the last mesh. You can enter any value or select a value in the list box. The values in the list box represent fixed mesh sections (3/4, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4).
   The mesh offset is adjusted in accordance with the value you enter.

5. In the input options, select the type of display to be assigned to the placement.
   • Click Mirror bending shape to mirror the bending shape in the placing view. The mirror axis is parallel to the placing line (only possible if you have defined a new placing region).
   • Click Different mark numbers to assign different mark number to meshes of different length.
   • Click Same mark numbers to assign the mark number of the selected mesh shape to all the meshes in the placement, regardless of their length. This way, you can produce whole meshes that are then cut directly on site.
     Please note that modifying the placement may change the mesh length.
   • Click / Toggle mesh diagonal to change the direction of the mesh diagonal (only possible if you have defined a new placing region).
