Animation surfaces for interiors and stories

Module(s): Rooms, Surfaces, Stories + Animation

When defining and modifying rooms, you can assign custom surfaces to all vertical surfaces and finishing surfaces. As a result, the interior and exterior of a room can have different surfaces.

For example, the surface of the floor can differ from the surface of the ceiling or from the surfaces of the walls. By defining several (special) vertical surfaces of different thickness for a single wall, you can display different surfaces on the same wall (for example, picture, mirror and wallpaper).

The program extrudes the vertical surfaces or finishing surfaces by the thickness entered and cuts them out at the openings in the wall, slab and so on.

You can enter surfaces when you create vertical surfaces and finishing surfaces. You can also do this later using various modification options.

Note: If a surface consists of several layers, you must assign the animation surface to the layer at the top so that it is used in animation.

Tip: The program displays the surface it uses for animation separately in the dialog box so that you can check it.

Note: As in quantity takeoff operations, the animation surfaces of special surfaces have a higher priority than the "normal" finishing surfaces.

Tip: Animation surfaces for finishing surfaces and special surfaces may slow down animation and rendering. Normally, you do not need them if you want to view your building from the outside. Using the Options - Rooms - Representation of finish elements area, you can hide Vertical surfaces, Floors, Ceilings, Baseboard and Areas from Allplan BCM building groups. Select these options if you want to render specific views, for viewing objects from the inside, for example.

To define animation surfaces for interiors and stories

  1. You have various options to assign animation surfaces:
  2. Click Properties and select the Finish tab.
  3. Set parameters for the covering. To define animation surfaces, scroll to the right and click in the Custom Surface column of the layer to which you want to assign a surface.

    The Surfaces palette opens.

  4. Select the surface in the Surface palette.
  5. Click OK to confirm the Surfaces palette.

The program enters the animation surface in the Custom Surface column.

  6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 to assign more surfaces.
  7. Click OK to confirm the dialog box.
