To define settings for fit to circle/outline

1. The Settings for Fit to Circle/Outline dialog box is open.
2. Select the Mode:
   • Roll placement
     

     This setting places the elements along the outline.

     The joints generated are parallel; if required, adjacent edges are cut where necessary .

     

     1 Offset to outline
     2 Joint
     3 Joint width
     4 Displacement

   • Radial placement
     

     This setting places the elements along the outline.

     The joints generated are conical and irregular; adjacent edges are not cut.

     

     1 Offset to outline
     2 Joint
     3 Joint width
     4 Displacement

   • Pie placement
     

     This setting places elements in the region that has been cut into pieces.

     The joints are parallel; adjacent edges are cut.

     

     1 Offset to outline
     2 Joint
     3 Joint width

     A preview is displayed in the Geometry area.

3. Select the Placing parameters:
   • Number of rows per outline
     

     Click in this box to enter the number of rows.

   • Fill circular elements
     

     Activate this check box when the region is a circle and is to be filled entirely.

   • Optimize joints
     

     Activate this check box if you want the width of every joint to be the same.

     Any excess (when fitting elements in circles and when this option is not activated) is distributed evenly across all the joints.

     Note: If the values entered for maximum joint width (Jmax) and minimum joint width (Jmin) are not observed, the values calculated by the program are displayed in a dialog box. You can decide whether an optimized joint width is to be used. Select the relevant width or quit the tool.

4. Set the Geometry.
   • Joint width (J)
     

     This is where you set the average width of the transverse joints.

   • Maximum joint width (Jmax)
     

     This is where you set the maximum width of the transverse joints.
     When this value is exceeded, the system will issue a message (if Optimize joints is enabled).

   • Minimum joint width (Jmin)
     

     This is where you set the minimum width of the transverse joints.
     When this value is undershot, the system will issue a message (if Optimize joints is enabled).

   • Joint (J)
     

     This is where you set the width of the longitudinal joint between the rows.

   • Displacement (D)
     

     This is where you set the offset between the rows.

   • Offset to outline (O)
     
     

     This is where you set the offset to the outline (edge distance).

   • Fixed edge value
     

     Use this setting to set the longitudinal edge of the element to a fixed value (for roll placement).

     You can thus set a different element length for every placement.

   • Automatic fixed value
     

     With this setting, the length of the element’s placing edge is selected automatically.

     Note: The parameters you set can be saved as a favorite file and read back into the dialog box.

5. Click OK to confirm the dialog box.
