Label

Various modules in the Architecture family

You can use the Label tool to label all architectural elements, stairs, advanced elements, instances of smart symbols and objects created in the Object Manager module at a later stage.

To label architectural elements later

1. Click Label (How).
   

   Activate Label in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   General notes: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   Rooms, Surfaces, Stories

   Stairs

   Frame Construction: Rafters, Roof Beams, Posts

   Object Manager

   • Configuration: Architecture Architecture Edit flyout
   • Configuration: Landscaping/Urban Planning Modifications flyout
2. Select the elements you want to label. The Input Options provide various useful tools:
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   For more information on the options available for selecting elements in Allplan, see Selecting elements, overview.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   • You can use Find Elements to define selection criteria for finding the elements to be labeled.
   • You can use Selection list for group of rooms, stories to select groups of rooms and stories for labeling in a list.
   • You can use Click group of rooms, stories to select a group of rooms or stories for labeling by clicking it.
   • You can use All to select all the elements in the active drawing files for labeling.
3. If you selected the elements by clicking or enclosing them in a selection rectangle, confirm the selection by clicking the right mouse button.
4. Specify the label in detail:
   • Click Toggle to change the text parameters.
   • Click Back to Default Label. On the Label Context toolbar, the system will present a series of fields for you to choose from - these define the contents of the default label or of the stairs label. The boxes vary, depending on the type of element you clicked.
     

     Number of rises	Click in the data entry box to add (**) the number of rises to the stair’s label or to hide it (-).
     Unit	This is where you define the unit for Rise and Tread.
     Rise	Use this to define the number of decimal places for the Rise value (1 to 3). Click to hide this value.
     Tread	Use this to define the number of decimal places for the Tread value (1 to 3). Click to hide this value.
     Arrange	Use this to define the sequence in which Rise and Tread are displayed in the label: Ris/Trd or Trd/Ris.

   • Click Label Style if you want to use a label style for the label.
   • When the Object Manager module is installed:
     Click Object label to label objects in the same way as in the Object Manager module.
     

     When you have installed the Object Manager module, you can label architectural elements in the same way as objects.

     You can add attributes to labels as follows:

     • Check the boxes in front of the attributes you want to include in the label.

     You can use the arrows near the bottom of the dialog box to alter the sequence in which the attributes are displayed in the label:

     • Moves the selected attribute to the top
     • Moves the selected attribute to the bottom
     • Moves the selected attribute up a line
     • Moves the selected attribute down a line
   • Click Match properties if you want to use a label style or an object label you have already placed.
5. Click in the workspace to position the text; use the tools in the input options.
   

   In the input options click

   • Horiz
     to place the label so that it is horizontal.
   • Vertic
     to place the label so that it is vertical.
   • Angle
     to place the label at an angle.
   • Auto (not with Component Number)
     to place the label so that it automatically reflects the geometry of the selected component (important for window labels with label styles).
   • Resize (not with Component Number)
     to change the size of the label. Enter a factor in the dialog line.
   • Skip (not with Component Number)
     lets you skip the current element.
   • Go (not with Elevation Point)
     to automatically assign labels to all the selected elements. The start point for the text is positioned in the element’s centroid or, in the case of stairs, at the bottom.

Tip: The Edit Text (How) and Find and Replace (How) tools can also be used with architectural labels. In this case, not only the text will change but also the corresponding internal attributes of the elements!
This makes it possible to replace ”1st upper floor” with ”2nd upper floor” in all room labels with just a single command.

Activate Find and Replace in one of the following ways

• Menu bar: Modify Text

• Toolbar: Basic Tools Text flyout
• Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):
