Element group

Using element groups

You can use the Element Group tool to combine any 2D elements or specific architectural elements into an element group. You can then address this group as a single entity. In contrast to smart symbols, you can still modify the individual elements in the group using the shortcut menu, for example.

The following architectural elements can be included in element groups:

• Wall
• Upstand
• Column
• Slab
• Beam
• Foundation
• Chimney
• User-defined archit. element

Bear in mind that only elements in the current drawing file can be grouped. Although you can select elements in drawing files open in edit mode, these elements are ignored.

To group elements

1. Click Element Group (How).
   

   Activate Element Group in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Advanced Draft

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Advanced Draft

   Smart Symbols

2. Select the elements you want to group.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

3. Enter a name for the group in the dialog line and press ENTER to confirm.

   This name is used in reports.
