Trim Lines to Element

Module(s): Draft

You can use the Trim Lines to Element tool to shorten or lengthen lines and polylines as far as the point where they intersect a reference element you specify. This can be a line, polyline, arc, circle, ellipse or spline. You can specify whether you want to trim lines to the (virtual) point of intersection. In this case, the reference element is lengthened.

To trim lines to the point of intersection with another element

  1. Click Trim Lines to Element (How).
  2. Activate Virtual in the Input options when you want to trim the elements to the (virtual) point of intersection. In this case, the reference element is lengthened.
  3. Select the elements you want to trim.

Tip: If the element to be trimmed intersects the reference element, click the side of the element you want to retain.
    Example

  4. Click the reference element that is to represent the intersection edge.
  5. If one or several elements to be trimmed intersect the reference element and thus, the side to be trimmed cannot be determined clearly, the system asks you to enter a temporary point. Click the side of the reference element where you want to retain the elements.
    Example
  6. When you want to trim a polygon using the Virtual option, you can specify whether the two end lines of the polygon or the lines in-between are to be trimmed. You can also trim all the lines.
