Drawing lines

The following two options are available for drawing lines:

• You can draw lines using the Line tool. This creates lines that consist of a series of individual elements, which can be edited individually or as a single entity (group).
  

  An entity group is a group of elements which can be addressed as a whole. Polylines constructed in one step, for example, or symbols are entity groups. A group can be addressed as a whole by clicking one of the elements in the group with the middle and then left mouse button. Alternatively, press and hold down the SHIFT key and then click the element with the left mouse button. Elements can be combined into an entity group even while being created (with the Assign Group Number tool) or later (with the Modify Format Properties tool).

• You can draw lines using the Polyline tool. This creates lines that consist of a single entity. You can either enter the polyline from scratch or you can utilize existing outlines or elements. Another advantage is that pattern lines applied to polylines only intersect correctly when the relevant polylines have been created using the Polyline tool.

You can use Combine Lines to Make Polylines to combine individual lines that touch to form a single polyline. You can use Split Polylines into Discrete Lines to split a polyline into discrete lines.
