Converting 3D solids to user-defined architectural elements

Tool(s): Convert Elements

You can use this tool to convert 3D lines, 3D surfaces and 3D solids to user-defined architectural elements in a single operation.

• The elements are converted directly in the document. The original 3D elements are deleted in the process.
  If you want to retain the original 3D elements, you must first copy these elements to a different document using Save As... or Copy, Move Elements between Documents... (on the File menu), for example.

To convert 3D solids to user-defined architectural elements

1. Click Convert Elements (How).
   

   Activate Convert Elements in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   General notes: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   3D Modeling

   Bridge and Civil Engineering

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   Stairs

   • Configuration: Design Basic 3D Elements flyout
2. Click 3D to U-D Elements in the dialog box.
3. Select the 3D elements to be converted.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   The elements are converted to user-defined architectural elements in the current document. The User-Defined Archit. Element (How) tool, by the way, creates the same elements.

   

   Activate User-Defined Archit. Element in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture Rooms, Surfaces, Stories

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Rooms, Surfaces, Stories

   Note: User-defined architectural elements can only have restricted architecture-specific properties.

   Note: 3D solids that already have attributes are not converted to user-defined architectural elements. To delete a complete set of attributes, which may even be empty, use the Remove Attributes tool in the Object Manager module.
