Isolating individual instances of smart symbols from a chain

You can isolate individual instances of a smart symbol from a chain. Please bear in mind, however, that by doing so, you also remove all subordinate instances in the process. Nevertheless, the elements you remove remain defined as smart symbols.

To isolate an individual instance of a smart symbol from a chain

1. Click Link Smart Symbols (How).
   

   Activate Link Smart Symbols in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Bonus Tools Smart Symbols

   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Smart Symbols

2. Click Unlink in the Input Options.
3. Select the instances you want to isolate from the chain.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.
