Creating bridge or tunnel cross-sections

Tool(s): Entering cross-sections in the Bridge/Civil Engineering Component tool

1. Click Add Predefined Cross-Section Variant on the Cross-Section toolbar.
2. Select a cross-section or click OK if you want to create the cross-section already selected.

   Note: You can use Select catalog to control how many cross-sections are presented for selection. When you have selected a user-defined catalog, click the button to display all cross-sections. Select a cross-section.

3. Enter the dimensions of the cross-section in the unit of length set and specify the inclination in [%]. When the cross-section is symmetrical, you can copy the dimensions by pressing and holding down the mouse button and dragging the icon (on the side for which you have already defined the dimensions) to the other icon.
   

   Inclination of typical cross-sections

   The effects of positive inclination values vary depending on the cross-section type. The top levels of bridge cross-sections may be inclined in any direction; in the case of tunnel cross-sections, on the other hand, the edges are usually inclined.

   Consequently, the following rules apply:

   • Bridge cross-sections: entering a positive value for the inclination causes the edge of the cross-section to rise in the direction indicated by the arrow.
   • Tunnel cross-sections: entering a positive value for the inclination causes the edge of the cross-section to drop in the direction indicated by the arrow.

   Note: Use Record Management to save the cross-sections entered and retrieve them later.

4. Click OK to confirm the dialog box.

   The coordinates of the polygon points are determined.

5. Edit the cross-section created or quit definition to assign the cross-section to the current station point.
   

Note: You can also delete a cross-section while entering it.

Deleting cross-section while entering it

If you have deleted a region of a cross-section by entering another cross-section, you can restore the original state by adding the same cross-section. You can use the shortcut menu; the point clicked is automatically used as the reference point.

If you want to discard an entire cross-section, you can add a new cross-section which covers the original cross-section in its entirety or you can remove a rectangular cross-section which covers the existing cross-section in its entirety by selecting the Delete option.

Deleting cross-section after having entered it

To delete an entire cross-section, you can use Delete All Corner Points. However, partial cross-sections you have added later are not deleted. These can be removed using Delete Addition to Cross-Section.
