Saving SmartParts to the library

Tool(s): Window SmartPart + Door SmartPart + Shading SmartPart + Domed Roof-Light SmartPart

You have created a SmartPart using the Window SmartPart, Door SmartPart, Verschattung_16 Shading SmartPart or Domed Roof-Light SmartPart tool or you have customized the properties of a placed SmartPart for your needs or you have modified the SmartPart using handles. If you want to use this SmartPart at a late stage, you can save it in the library in a folder or your choice.

To save a SmartPart to the library

  1. Open the Library palette by clicking its tab.
  2. Open the SmartParts folder in the library.
    You can navigate through the folders in the top part of the palette. Click the required folder with the left mouse button or click to find the folder.
    Clicking takes you up level by level in the folder hierarchy of the Library palette.
  3. Open the SmartParts folder.
  4. Select the folder where you want to save the SmartPart.
    You cannot save SmartParts in the Default folder.
  5. After having opened the required folder, you can find two tools at the bottom of the Library palette:
  6. After you have created a New group and entered a name for it (121 characters maximum), you can use the Insert SmartPart tool to save the SmartPart in this group. Click this tool, enter a name for the SmartPart (70 characters maximum) and press ENTER to confirm. Finally, click the SmartPart you want to save.

    The new SmartPart is displayed in the Preview. You can see the folder with the SmartPart in the area below the Preview.

    Note: The icon is displayed for folders and SmartParts you created yourself. Clicking this icon opens a shortcut menu, where you can find the Delete, Rename and Copy tools.

  7. To use the SmartPart, double-click it with the left mouse button.

    The palette with the properties of the SmartPart opens and the SmartPart is attached to the crosshairs.

Note: You can also save the SmartPart with tis geometry and attributes as a favorite. To do this, you can use the Save Copy as ... and Save and Show Copy as a Wizard ... tools on the File menu.
