Rooms to 2D polylines

Tool(s): Convert Elements

You can use this tool to convert three-dimensional rooms to closed 2D polylines. The architecture-specific properties of the rooms are lost in the process. The polyline is given the original attributes assigned to the room. The resulting polyline assumes the format properties of the room. Room labels are converted to normal text, which is no longer associated with the room or polyline.

• The elements are converted directly in the document. The original architectural elements are deleted in the process.
  If you want to retain the original architectural elements, use Copy, Convert Elements Across Drawing Files or copy the elements you want to convert to a different document using Save As... or Copy, Move Elements between Documents... (both on the File menu) before you start the conversion.

To convert rooms to 2D polylines

1. Click Convert Elements (How).
   

   Activate Convert Elements in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   General notes: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   3D Modeling

   Bridge and Civil Engineering

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   Stairs

   • Configuration: Design Basic 3D Elements flyout
2. Select Rooms to 2D polylines in the dialog box.
3. Select the rooms you want to convert.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   The rooms are immediately converted to closed 2D polylines in the current document. The polyline is given the original attributes assigned to the room. The resulting polyline assumes the format properties of the room. Room labels are converted to normal text, which is no longer associated with the room or polyline.

   Tip: You can edit the attributes using Assign, Modify Object Attributes (How).

   

   Activate Assign, Modify Object Attributes in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Bonus Tools Object Manager

   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Object Manager
