Manage reference drawing files

You can use the Manage Reference Drawing Files tool to show the reference drawing files of the current drawing file and, if necessary, delete links you no longer need.

To display and and, if necessary, delete drawing file references

1. Click Manage Reference Drawing Files (How).
   

   Activate Manage Reference Drawing Files in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Change Engineering Views, Details Associative Views

   • Palette: Tools Change area in the following module(s):

   Associative views

   All reference drawing files of the current drawing file are displayed in a dialog box.

   

   Reference drawing files are drawing files that are inherently linked and that need to be selected together for specific modifications. You can see which drawing files are reference drawing files - they are marked with a paper clip in the third column in the dialog box for selecting drawing files.
   When copying or moving data across drawing files results in new links, the program displays a relevant message.

   Drawing files are linked when you create associative views and sections of 3D elements in new drawing files.

   You can find tools for editing reference drawing files on the shortcut menu of drawing files in the dialog box for selecting drawing files and in the Associative Views module.
   If you are about to edit associative views and sections without having loaded the associated reference drawing files, the program displays a relevant message. You can then activate the reference drawing files immediately.

2. Click Edit unless all reference drawing files are open in edit mode.
3. Clear the check box of the drawing file you want to unlink.
4. Click Apply to save the current setting of reference drawing files.

Note: Using this tool, you can delete drawing file references but you cannot create new references. To add elements to existing views and sections and thus create a link, you can use the Add to View tool.

Tip: If you only want to get information on the reference drawing files of individual views, use the Display Drawing File References tool.
