Display drawing file references

You can use the Display Drawing File References tool to open a window that lists the reference drawing files of views and sections you have created across drawing files.

To display drawing file references

1. Click Display Drawing File References (How).
   

   Activate Display Drawing File References in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Engineering Views, Details Associative Views

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Associative Views

2. Click the view or section whose reference drawing files you want to display.
   

   Reference drawing files are drawing files that are inherently linked and that need to be selected together for specific modifications. You can see which drawing files are reference drawing files - they are marked with a paper clip in the third column in the dialog box for selecting drawing files.
   When copying or moving data across drawing files results in new links, the program displays a relevant message.

   Drawing files are linked when you create associative views and sections of 3D elements in new drawing files.

   You can find tools for editing reference drawing files on the shortcut menu of drawing files in the dialog box for selecting drawing files and in the Associative Views module.
   If you are about to edit associative views and sections without having loaded the associated reference drawing files, the program displays a relevant message. You can then activate the reference drawing files immediately.

   A window shows which drawing file contains the view or section and which drawing files are linked with this view or section.

   Note: If the view or section and the 3D elements are in the same drawing file, a message appears announcing that there are no reference drawing files.

Tip: In the dialog box for selecting drawing files (Open on a project-specific basis: drawing files from fileset/building structure) you can use the shortcut menu of the drawing file to list its reference drawing files and to set them to active or passive. Drawing files containing reference drawing files are marked with a paper clip in the third column.

Tip: You can use the Manage Reference Drawing Files tool to delete links to reference drawing files for the current drawing file. However, this always applies to the entire drawing file. You cannot delete reference drawing files from individual views.
