Archiving using external programs

You can use the interface between Allplan and document management systems to archive and document CAD layouts straight from Allplan using external programs.

In Allplan, you can archive layouts using the Print Layouts tool in the Layout module.
You can define the parameters for archiving in the Archiving palette.

As soon as you confirm the settings, Allplan creates two files and saves them to a folder you specify. These files can then be processed by the external program:

• An XML file with all project resources (when Project attributes and/or Layout attributes is/are selected).
• A graphics file in TIFF (defined internally by the program) or PDF format.

In Allplan, you can select the destination folder to which the graphics file(s) and the associated XML-format file(s) are saved. In addition, you can specify which Windows application or document management system is to start.

For this, you can define any folders in the data system as exchange folders. If archiving in the document management system requires an additional application (EXE), you can configure the path to and the name of this application using an appropriate dialog box in Allplan.

Now you can use the functions provided by the document management system. For example, the external program may monitor the defined folder and import the two files. The information in the XML-format file can be transferred to the corresponding fields in the database of the document management system.
