Use for Shell

Module(s): Shell

The Use for Shell tool lets you use architectural elements or 3D components in shell entities (shell view). As the data is copied, the original data is not destroyed. With architectural elements, only the component geometry is used, not the material data.

To use modeled data as shell views

  1. Click Match (How).
  2. Click the components you want to use. With this function, the original data in the edit mode drawing file remains intact.
  3. If you have selected more than one element, the system will prompt whether you wish to merge these into a single shell entity.
In the Input options you can specify whether you want to Merge Solids or not.
  4. If the active drawing file already contains views, you now need to specify whether the components you have just transferred are to form a separate view or not. To join these elements to an existing view, click the desired view in the workspace. If there is only one view anyway, you can simply click Old in the Input options.
  5. When you have configured the program to automatically dimension views and sections (using the Options), you can specify the dimensioning angle when creating a new view. Then the dimensioning is created at this angle.
If you wish to skip automatic dimensioning, disable Dimension Views and Sections in the Input options and press ENTER to confirm.

Note: As only shell entities are generated, you cannot toggle the Reinforcement Label on/off (in the Input options).

  6. When you are ready and transferred all the components you want to use, press ESC to quit Use for Shell. Don’t forget to close the drawing file with the source data (the modeled components etc.) - assuming that you do not need them anymore.
