Convert 3D entities to DTM

Module(s): Digital Terrain Model

You can use the Convert 3D Entities to DTM tool to convert 3D elements to a DTM element.

To convert 3D elements to a DTM element

1. Click Convert 3D Entities to DTM (How).
   

   Activate Convert 3D Entities to DTM in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Terrain Digital Terrain Model

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Digital Terrain Model

2. Select the destination file for the DTM element.
3. Click Meshing in the input options if you want the 3D elements to be meshed automatically.
4. Select the 3D elements to be meshed by clicking, opening a selection rectangle or the brackets tool
   or
   Double-click with the right mouse button or click All in the input options to select all 3D elements.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

Notes:

• The 3D elements may be surfaces, solids or lines that define contour lines, breaklines or outlines.
• Points are numbered automatically when this is set in Terrain Point.
• You can use Mesh, Optimize Grid to mesh the points into a DTM after conversion.
