Collar Beam

Module(s): Frame Construction: Rafters, Roof Beams, Posts

You can use the Collar Beam tool to create collar beams between rafters or rafters and posts or universal timber elements.

To create collar beams (individually or in pairs)

• Collar beams can only be created where a series of rafters has already been placed.

1. Click Collar Beam (How).
   

   Activate Collar Beam in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture Frame Construction: Rafters, Roof Beams, Posts

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Rafter Design: Rafters, Roof Beams, Posts

   • Configuration: Architecture Frame Construction flyout
2. If you want, you can now modify the collar beam parameters.
   Use one of the following options provided on the Context toolbar.
   

   • Click Properties to set the parameters in a dialog box.
   • Click Match Properties to copy the settings form an existing element.
   • Click Load favorite to select saved parameter combinations.
3. Click the rafter where you want to create a collar beam.
   By changing the reference point, you can define the position of the collar beam more precisely.
4. Define the height of the collar beam in one of the following ways:
   • The height of the point clicked is proposed. Alter the value.
   • Click a point in one of the views.

     Note:
     When Bottom is active, define the height of the bottom of the collar beam.
     When Top is active, define the height of the top of the collar beam.

5. Define the collar beam's endpoint by clicking a post, universal timber element or the rafter on the opposite side.
6. Click in the workspace to define the direction in which the collar beam will extend.
   If you click the line of distribution, a pair of collar beams is created.
7. Press ESC to quit the tool.
