The Frame Construction module builds on the concept of reference planes in Allplan. It provides tools for creating all types of timber and steel elements and entire rafter placements in a quick and comfortable manner based on existing roof planes. All the components can however be assigned different materials like steel or concrete, for example.

The position of the rafters and the other elements is governed by the position of the planes at creation time. The rafters will not update to reflect subsequent alterations to the roof planes.

Additional tools are also provided for designing hip/valley rafters, roof beams, posts, headers, collar ties and collar beams.

The elements are always created in three dimensions. Like other architectural elements, they intersect in accordance with the priority ratings set. You can also generate lists and schedules based on the elements you have placed and sort these by type and material.

Placing rafters involves the following steps:

• Select the plane in which the rafters are to be placed.
• Select the placement region.
• Set parameters for the rafters.
• Quit the Rafters tool.
  The rafters are then created automatically as 3D elements.
