Linking dimension lines to views

You can use the Link Dimension Lines to Views tool to associate dimension lines created later with a view or section so that any modifications you make to the view or section (move, copy, delete) will affect the dimension lines, too.

Note: If you use the zoom factors to display a view or section at a different scale, the dimensions of manual dimension lines are the result of the dimensions multiplied by the zoom factor. By linking these dimension lines with the view or section, you can correct the dimensions to appropriate values.

To link dimension lines with views or sections

1. Click Link Dimension Lines to Views (How).
   

   Activate Link Dimension Lines to Views in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Engineering Views, Details Associative Views

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Associative Views

2. Click the view or section you want to associate with the dimension lines created later.

   Note: Dimension lines you have already linked can be associated with a different view or section. All you need to do is assign them again.

3. Select the dimension lines.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.
