The Scan module only supports RLC-format images. Therefore, you can use the Converter tool to convert bitmap files in common formats to RLC files.

The RLC format is a compressed pixel format operating in black and white mode. Due to its structure, it is especially well suited to hybrid data processing, i.e., the simultaneous display, processing and printing of pixel data in combination with vector data. In the Scan module, bitmap files (e.g., scans of drawings) can be stored in RLC format as a scanned image. Bitmap files received in BMP or TIF format can be converted into RLC format.

The data to be converted must be on a storage medium or in a drive that the computer can access. The converted data is saved in the current project.

Note: It is advisable to use TIFF format for a quick conversion process.

To convert a bitmap file to a RLC file

1. Click Converter (How).
   

   Activate Converter in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Bonus Tools Scan

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Scan

2. In the Converter dialog box, select:
   • the format of the file to be converted
   • the drive, path and name of the file to be converted

     Click Open.

3. In the Target Scanned Image dialog box, enter the name of the RLC file.

   Click Save.

4. Enter the brightness limit value for the conversion and click OK to confirm.
   

   RLC-format scanned images are always single-color bitmaps. When you convert a color bitmap file in TIFF, BMP or another common bitmap format, the system will prompt you for the brightness limit value below which color pixels are transferred to the bitmap image and above which color pixels are not converted.

   Setting a brightness limit value of 20%, for instance, will only convert the darker regions of the bitmap.

   The default setting is 50%.

   The converted file is copied to the current project. You can insert it in the background of a drawing file using Link with Image.

Supported TIFF-formats:

• TIFF uncompressed
• TIFF compressed with packbits
• TIFF compressed with CCITT 3 1D (black/white format)
• TIFF Group 4 (CCITT Group 4 2D)
