Concrete construction - 3D object

The Concrete Construction - 3D Object tool provides a convenient way of creating predefined engineering components (e.g. precast columns). You can select the components in a catalog and customize them for your needs using dialog boxes and shortcut menus.

To create predefined concrete components

1. Click Concrete Construction - 3D Object (How).
   

   Activate Concrete Construction - 3D Object in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Bonus Tools 3D Modeling

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   3D Modeling

2. Enable the Select placement view option if you want to define the position of the component prior to placing it.
3. Select a catalog, choose a component and click OK to confirm the dialog box.
   

   Additional tools for selecting components

   All components are shown graphically. When you drag the cursor over a component, ToolTips with a description of the relevant component appear.

   Clicking the individual components with the right mouse button and selecting Enlarge View enlarges the display of the component clicked.
   In addition, you can use the slide bar at bottom left in the dialog box to enlarge the graphic preview in its entirety. But this is reset when you quit the tool.

4. Set component settings as required in the dialog box.

   Note: Use Record management to save component settings and retrieve them later.

5. Click OK to confirm the dialog box and select the placement view by clicking (if you have enabled the Select placement view option).

   A preview of the component is attached to the crosshairs, and the component automatically adapts to the view you have set.

6. Before you place the component, you can specify its drop-in point and other parameters in the dialog line, Enter Component dialog box or on the shortcut menu.
   

   In addition to the functions described below, the shortcut menu contains all the common tools for entering points. Additional information is entered in the dialog line.

   • Point snap options, Track tracing options: use this to specify how coordinates are entered.
   • Mirror across y, x axis: this is where you can mirror the component across its local y or x axis.
   • Rotation angle: point to and click the angle by which you want to rotate the component. This angle is entered in the Enter Component dialog box and can be altered.
   • Resize component: click a line to define the reference line (highlighted in green). Then click the end point of the component. Please note that this operation places the component in the workspace.
   • Component dialog: click Component dialog to modify the parameters of the component. Please note that this operation places the component in the workspace.
   

   The Enter Component dialog box provides the following tools:

   • Rotation angle: this is where you can enter an angle by which you want to rotate the component. You can select a predefined value in the list box or enter any value at the keyboard.
   • Mirror across y, x axis: this is where you can mirror the component across the local y or x axis.
7. Place the component in the workspace The following options are available:
   • Click the drop-in point with the left mouse button.
   • Click the drop-in point with the right mouse button and, on the shortcut menu, select Resize component to adjust the component to the height or length of an existing component after placing it.
   • Click the drop-in point with the right mouse button and, on the shortcut menu, select Component dialog to modify the component parameters after placing it.
