Placing a layout border that matches the size of the clip boundaries

A layout is generally set up independently of the output device. Consequently, when placing the layout border, you can access the clip boundaries of a specific device.

Clip boundaries are the maximum printable area of a form. For Windows drivers, they result from the size of the printable area minus the device margins, and for Allplan vector drivers, from the size of the paper format minus the margins defined.

If you are in a position where you often need to place a border that exactly matches the size of the clip boundaries of a specific device, you can save a border size that you have defined and access it whenever you need it again (for administrators or users with administrator privileges only).

To create a layout border the same size as the clip boundaries of a device for multiple use

1. Set up the page and the printable area for your device.
   

   When working with Windows drivers, the printable area represents the paper size of the output device, which is available for printing. The size of the printable area is delimited by a border which is displayed in the Layout module. The outer border indicates the page size, and the inner border indicates the maximum printable area (clip boundaries).
   You can use Show/Hide to show and hide the border of the printable area.

   Note: When working with Allplan vector drivers, the size you specify for the printable area defines the maximum coordinates the output device can handle. The layout is cut at these points. The printable area is not displayed on screen.

2. Measure (How) the size of the layout border for the printable area of the page or of the output device.
   

   Activate Measure in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Tools

   • Keyboard: Ctrl+Alt+M

   • Toolbar: Standard
3. Click Layout Border (How).
   

   Activate Layout Border in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Layout

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Layout flyout
   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Layout

   Crop layout

4. In the Format area, define the Width and Height of the new layout border format.

   [User-defined format] is entered for the name of the format.

5. Click in the Format box, enter a name for the new format and press ENTER to confirm.
   You can now use the new layout border.

To create a layout border the same size as the clip boundaries of a device just once

1. Set up the page and the printable area for your device.
2. Click Layout Border (How).
3. Make settings for the border.
4. Click Based on diagonal line in the input options.
5. Click two diagonally opposite points so that the size of the border is exactly the same as the printable area of the page displayed or of the output device.
