Splines

Module(s): Draft

You can use the Spline tool to draw a spline. A spline is a curve that connects a predefined sequence of control points as smoothly as possible. The spline can be connected to an existing element at any angle in its start and end point. You can also apply a symbol to its start and/or end.

To create a spline

  1. Click Spline (How).
  2. Specify whether the program is to use the start point for connection and/or use the end point for connection when you have finished entering points.

Note: If you do not define a connection, the program uses the natural connection condition.

  3. You can apply a symbol to the start and/or end of the spline.
  4. Define the individual control points of the spline or click an existing element. Use the drawing aids for polygonizing elements to define the points.

Tip: When you press and hold down the SHIFT key after you have placed the first point, additional points are created so that they are always orthogonal unless Enter at right angles or Enter using cursor snap is enabled in the dialog line.

Tip: Back allows you to undo every entry made in reverse order.

  5. Press ESC to finish entering points.
  6. Specify element or angle for connection: if necessary, define a connection in the point marked.
If the first or last point of the spline is also the start or end point of another element, the program uses the direction and curvature of the element at the connecting point as the connection condition for the spline. Simply click this element. Otherwise, you can choose a direction angle from various default values or enter any value. Press ENTER to confirm the value.

Note: The spline’s control points are displayed like curve delimiting points.
