Ellipse

Module(s): Draft

You can use the Ellipse tool to draw an open or closed ellipse.

Note: You can show/hide centers of ellipses using Show/Hide.

To draw an ellipse

1. Click Ellipse (How).
   

   Activate Ellipse in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Draft

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Draft flyout
   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Draft

2. You can apply a symbol to the start and/or end of the ellipse.
   

   Start and end symbols can be applied to various 2D entities.

   • Select a symbol and define its size in millimeters.
   • Select the start symbol and/or end symbol by checking the relevant box(es).
   • You can change this symbol or switch it off at any time while you are drawing
3. Click Enter full ellipse to draw a closed ellipse.
4. Enter the center point.
5. Define the first radius in one of the following ways:
   • Click a point.
     

     • Click the point.
     • Align to points using the linear snap function and click the point.
     • Define the point by making entries in the dialog line.

     Tip: The shortcut menu and dialog line provide tools and options to assist you in the process of entering points. For more information, see Tools and Options.

   • Enter the value for the first radius in the dialog line and press Enter to confirm.
6. Define the second radius in one of the following ways:
   • Click a point.
   • Enter the value for the second radius in the dialog line and press Enter to confirm.
7. When you entered the two radii at the keyboard, you can now define the inclination of the ellipse in one of the following ways:
   • Click in the workspace and enter a point for the inclination.
   • Enter a value for the angle of inclination in the dialog line.

     When Enter full ellipse is active, a closed ellipse is drawn.
     Creating an open ellipse involves additional steps.

     Tip: When you press ESC now, the program will draw a closed ellipse even if Enter end angle or Enter end angle based on delta angle is active in the Input options.

8. Define the ellipse's starting point in one of the following ways:
   • Click a point.
   • Enter the starting angle (counter-clockwise, relative to the horizontal x axis).
9. Define the ellipse's end point in one of the following ways:
   • Click the end point.
   • Click Enter end angle in the Input options and enter the end angle (counter-clockwise, relative to the horizontal x axis).
   • Click Enter end angle based on delta angle in the Input options and enter the delta angle (relative to the starting angle).

     Tip: You can undo the entries you have made step by step by clicking Back in the Input Options.

     The ellipse is drawn.
