Rectangle

You can use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle as a polyline or based on individual lines. The rectangle can be created in four different ways: by entering two diagonally opposite points, base line and height, center line and height, or center and a corner.

To draw a rectangle

1. Click Rectangle (How).
   

   Activate Rectangle in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Draft

   • Keyboard: CTRL+B

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Draft flyout
   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Draft

   Site Plan

2. If Enter rectangle as a polyline is active in the input options, Allplan creates the rectangle as one connected element that can be selected as a single entity with one mouse click. If is not active, the rectangle consists of individual lines that you can select separately by clicking or as an entity group by pressing the SHIFT key while clicking.
   

   An entity group is a group of elements which can be addressed as a whole. Polylines constructed in one step, for example, or symbols are entity groups. A group can be addressed as a whole by clicking one of the elements in the group with the middle and then left mouse button. Alternatively, press and hold down the SHIFT key and then click the element with the left mouse button. Elements can be combined into an entity group even while being created (with the Assign Group Number tool) or later (with the Modify Format Properties tool).

3. In the Input options, specify the method you want to use to create the rectangle:
   • Based on diagonal line to define the rectangle by entering diagonally opposite points.
   • Based on base line to define the rectangle by entering the base line and the width.
   • Based on center line to define the rectangle by entering the center line and half the width.
   • Based on center to define the rectangle by entering the center and a corner.

     Tip: You can undo every entry made in reverse order by clicking Back in the Input Options.

Note: To draw a rectangle at an angle, change the system angle on the Standard toolbar.
