Assigning a different layer to elements already created

Defining the layer on which to design

You can assign a different layer to elements you have already created. Doing so can change the elements’ format properties (if the elements have the From layer property).

The expression From Layer means that an element gets its format properties from the layer to which it is assigned.

To assign a different layer to elements already created

1. Click Modify Format Properties (How).
   

   Activate Modify Format Properties in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Edit

   • Keyboard: SHIFT+CTRL+M

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Edit flyout
2. In the Modify Format Properties dialog box, click the button with the name of the layer.
3. In the Layer dialog box, use the right mouse button to click the layer you want to assign to the elements and, on the shortcut menu, click Current.
4. In the Modify Format Properties dialog box, click OK.
5. Select the elements you want to move onto the selected layer.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.
