Assigning the ‘From Layer’ setting to elements already created

Matching the format properties of layers

You can assign the ‘FromLayer’ setting to existing elements.

To assign the ‘FromLayer’ format property later

1. Click Modify Format Properties (How).
   

   Activate Modify Format Properties in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Edit

   • Keyboard: SHIFT+CTRL+M

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Edit flyout
2. In the Type of modification area, select Change "FromLayer" for pen, line and color.
3. In the Format properties area, check the boxes of the format properties for which you want to assign the 'From Layer' setting.
4. Select the elements you want to modify.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

Note: In the case of 2D elements, you can also set the From layer property in the Properties palette.

Note: You can also assign the ‘FromLayer’ setting to existing elements later by activating Match layer’s format properties in the Layer dialog box and assigning the relevant layer to the elements again.
