Checking dimensions

Module(s): Dimension Lines

You can use the Check Dimensions tool to check that the reference points of dimension lines are on defined points (a corner of the building or a window opening, for example). If they aren't, dimensioning may not be precise as it is based on undefined points. In this case, undefined reference points are highlighted and you can select them and move them to the correct position.

Allplan detects undefined reference points in all visible documents. However, you can only move these points in the current document and in drawing files that are open in edit mode.

To check dimension lines

1. Click Check Dimensions (How).
   

   Activate Check Dimensions in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Dimension Lines

   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Dimension Lines

   • The system will issue a message if the documents do not contain any undefined reference points.
   • Undefined reference points found are highlighted.
2. You can define the undefined reference points more precisely using the Input options:
   • EndPnt only shows undefined reference points that are not on the endpoints of elements.
   • Element only shows undefined reference points that are not on elements.
   • Intersection point only shows undefined reference points that are not on the point where two elements intersect.
3. Select an undefined reference point you want to move.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   Note: Reference points that are beside each other can be selected and moved together.
   Congruent reference points are selected individually; the associated dimension line is displayed in the selection color.

4. Enter the new position of the reference points in one of the following ways:
   • Enter the start and end points for the move.
   • Enter the X and/or Y vectors.

     The red circle that indicates an undefined reference point disappears when the criteria specified in the Input options are met.

5. To correct more undefined reference points, repeat steps 2 to 4.

   The system will issue a message as soon as you have corrected all undefined reference points.
