The following applies when modifying column cross-sections:

In addition to attributes, you can also modify column cross-sections based on the approach used to enter columns. Alternatively, use Apply Archit. Component Properties (How).

Activate Apply Archit. Component Properties in one of the following ways

• Menu bar: Modify Architecture Basic: Walls, Openings, Components
  Special: Walls, Openings, Components

• Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

Special: Walls, Openings, Components

• Configuration: Architecture Architectural Components flyout

Be sure to note the following:

• The new position of a modified column is based on its centroid.
• When you modify the cross-section of a column placed at an angle, this angle is retained but you can change it.
• Columns with regular cross-sections cannot be turned into freeform columns. But you can convert freeform columns to columns with regular (i.e. circular or rectangular) cross-sections at any time.
• Columns with cross-sections saved as symbols behave like rectangular or round columns and you can modify the cross-sections at any time.

Examples

You want to modify the cross-section of two columns you have entered using different reference points:

When the rectangular cross-section is converted to a circular cross-section, the columns retain their position; this also applies when circular cross-sections are enlarged or reduced (the center of the column is retained).

But when you enlarge or reduce rectangular cross-sections, the centroid of the column is retained. Consequently, columns placed in corners, for example, need to be moved manually.
