Type

This is where you can define whether you want to insert a niche or a slit, recess or opening in the wall.

Note: As opposed to niches, recesses in vertical surfaces are ignored in quantity takeoff operations.

Shape

This is where you select the shape of the opening.

Note: Before you can select the Freeform Opening from Symbol Catalog type, you have to create the outline of an opening (elevation) in the Draft module and save it as symbol. The height, length and width of the opening result from the maximum height/length and width of the symbol and cannot be changed.

Note: The height of a freeform opening from the symbol catalog in z direction is defined either by TL or by BL as the height o the opening cannot be changed. The width of the opening is defined by the width of the symbol.

Parameters

Width (for niche, slit, recess, opening)

Enter the depth of the niche or recess.

Depth (for niche, slit, recess, opening)

Enter the depth of the niche or recess.

If you want to create an opening in a wall, the minimum depth must be identical to the wall thickness.

Height to BL

Define the height of the bottom of the niche or recess.

Height (for niche, slit, recess, opening)

Enter the depth of the niche or recess.

Rise at top

This setting is only available with circular and polygonal openings.

Enter a value.

Height to rise or

This setting represents the distance between the top of the sill and the start of the rise.

Geometry

When you have selected the Freeform Opening from Symbol Catalog type, you can use to select an outline of an opening (elevation) you have saved as a symbol.

The opening is displayed at its maximum height and width in the Preview area.

The parameters are displayed in the Preview area.

Relative height

Click Height... to define the height of the opening. You can define the height as an absolute value. You can also associate the height of the element with default or custom reference planes or relative to other building elements.

Relative to TL, BL

The height setup is represented by icons. Click Height... to make changes.

Visibility option

This is where you can specify whether slits, recesses and openings are to be displayed in sections and 3D views.

Open/save favorite file

To save a niche, recess, slit or opening as a favorite file, click .
To retrieve a favorite file, click .

Plan

This is where you can specify how niches, slits, recesses and openings are to be displayed in plan view.

Library element

To insert a defined smart symbol, click and select the smart symbol in the Library palette.
