Sharing a printer for other users on the network
To share a printer for other users on the network
- Click Start at the lower border of the viewport, click Control Panel and then select Devices and Printers or Printers and Faxes.
- Click with the right mouse button on the printer you want to share.
- On the shortcut menu, click Printer properties and select the Sharing tab or click Sharing....
Note: Click Additional Drivers... to install more drivers so that users running different Windows operating systems can select these drivers when they connect to shared printers.
- Enable the Share this printer option and enter a share name, taking into account the following conventions:
- You can enter long printer names including blanks and special characters. But some clients do not support long names.
If the network includes different clients, the printer names should consist of a maximum of 31 characters and should not include special characters and blanks. - When you share printers for MS DOS computers, the share name should not be more than eight characters long. You can add a dot and up to three characters. The name must not contain blanks and special characters such as ( / & % $ ! + - \ etc.
The system usually proposes a name that already conforms to DOS conventions.
- Click OK to confirm.
