Setting the layer visibility in layouts

When it comes to setting the visibility of layers in layouts, a distinction has to be made between elements that are in layout elements (documents placed in a layout) and elements that are actually drawn in a layout.

Visibility of elements in layout elements

Four options are provided for setting the visibility of elements in layout elements. You can select one of these options when you place layout elements: open the Layout Element tool and click Layer/print set.

Set all to visible, ignore layers in layout element

When you select the Set all to visible setting, all the elements the user has the right to see are displayed and printed, regardless of the layer setting.

Print set, current setting of selected print set (dynamic)

When you select the Print set setting, only the layers in the selected print set are displayed and printed. This option is only available when at least one print set has been defined. The current settings of the selected print set are displayed in the Visibility in layout element area. This setting is ‘dynamic’; in other words, the final printout may differ depending on the current setting for the selected print set.

Current, always use current layer setting (dynamic)

When you select the Current setting, all the layers that are set to visible in Select, Set Layers (Format toolbar) are displayed and printed. This setting is ‘dynamic’; in other words, the final printout may differ depending on the current layer setting.

Fixed, save layer setting in layout element (fixed)

When you select the Fixed setting, you can specify which layers are visible. To do this, select the relevant layers and set the required status using the shortcut menu or the Status area. This setting is ’fixed’; in other words, it is saved with the layout element. This ensures that the final printout is always the same, regardless of print sets and the current layer setting.

Visibility of elements drawn directly in layouts

The visibility of elements which are drawn directly in a layout always depends on the current layer setting.
