Convert DTM Elements to 3D
Digital Terrain Model
You can use the Convert DTM Elements to 3D tool to convert DTM elements to a surface model or solid.
To convert DTM elements to 3D entities
- Click Convert DTM Elements to 3D (How).
- Select the number of the destination file for the new 3D elements.
- In the Input options, click Surface if you want to convert the DTM into a surface model. Otherwise, click Solid if you want to make a volume model.
- Click the DTM to be converted.
- Specify the horizon (solids only).
The value of the horizon must be smaller than the minimum/ higher than the maximum height of the DTM.
Notes
- Only the actual mesh structure of the DTM is converted. Additional elements like contours, for example, have to be copied by using Copy/Move Elements between Files. The association of the elements with the DTM is retained. To copy them as discrete elements, use Convert DTM Elements to 2D.
- Recesses are modeled as boxes in the 3D solid; break lines are modeled by the respective surfaces.
- When you convert mesh structures with more than 2,000 points, these structures are divided into several separate 3D elements (each up to 2,000 points). You can combine these 3D elements to make a group that can be addressed as a single entity.
- Converting back to a DTM from 3D will result in the loss of information in the special lines.
