You can use this option to specify how the elements in a composite element are displayed on screen after they are created.
You can use the Modify Composite Element tool to modify the way composite elements are displayed later.

'Create composite element with fixed format properties' is active:

The individual elements of which the composite element is made are displayed with different, defined colors and line type 5. Only the pen set on the Format toolbar is used.

The following colors are assigned:

• Lines and polylines: Green
• Circles: Red
• Clothoids, spirals and splines: Blue

Note: These colors are only used when the Color stands for pen option is off. When it is on, the composite element is displayed in the color associated with the active pen.

Color stands for pen means that the color used to display an element on screen is associated with (and thus dependent on) the pen thickness of the element in question. Elements drawn with a certain pen (or pen thickness) are always presented on-screen with the same color, regardless of the colors assigned to the individual elements. You can specify which color represents which pen in the Options (Standard toolbar) on the Desktop environment - Pen colors page. You can switch the Color stands for pen option on and off in Show/Hide on the Standard toolbar.

'Create composite element with fixed format properties' is not active:

The elements are drawn using the settings on the Format toolbar.

Note: When working with layers, the current layer is not assigned to the individual elements of the composite element. It is only assigned to the additional point symbol created as construction lines. All the elements of the composite element retain their layers but they assume the current settings for pen, line and color.
The way the composite element is displayed depends on the setting described above and on whether you have selected the 'Match from layer ...' setting.
