Dormer

Module(s): General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

You can use the Dormer tool to create planes for a dormer in a roof frame. Dormer planes are entered in the same way as roof frames; you can insert dormers into any roof frames (gable/hip roofs, barrel roofs, mandrel roofs).

To create planes for a dormer

  1. Click Dormer (How).
  2. Click the roof frame in which you want to insert a dormer.
  3. Enter the outline of the dormer as you would a polyline.

Note: If you want to apply a roof covering to a dormer with an overhang using the Roof Covering (How) tool, the dormer must be fully bounded by the main roof.

  4. Set the general height parameters for the dormer.
  5. Select a roof frame for the dormer and enter the relevant parameters.
  6. Click the eaves of the dormer frame to which the roof frame you have set is to be applied.
  7. You can modify the dormer frame as you like as long as the tool is active.
To modify the height of the eaves or change the roof profile on one side, for example, repeat steps 4 and 5 before you click the relevant side.

Note: Click Through Point to set the height of a point through which the roof profile will pass.
After having selected Through Point, the eaves parameter no longer has any effect on the current dormer slope.

  8. When you have created all the roof profiles, press ESC to quit the tool.

Architectural elements delimited by the roof frame and whose heights were defined as reference-plane oriented will adjust automatically to the envelope defined by the frame.
