Roof Modeling – An Introduction

Module(s): General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

Roof frames are not roofs!

You may already have encountered the Roof Frame tool in the general architecture module for creating gable and barrel roofs.
Allplan includes even more tools that significantly facilitate the design of complex roofs like gambrel roofs as well as dormers.

But careful!
The elements you create here are not actually roofs – they are actually a collection of pairs of roof planes! These have priority over the default reference planes.

After creating the planes, the design elements are drawn into the area. These components adapt to the envelope defined by the planes.

The actual roof covering has to be created later using the Roof Covering or Slab tool or using other architectural components.

Bear in mind that you are not creating an actual roof but a collection of custom reference planes.
All the terms used – ridge and eaves height, pitch etc. – refer solely to the planes in Allplan.

Tip: Always create just the planes that you require for the elements that you are in the process of entering.
