Pattern Modification, Define Substitutes

Tool(s): Element for Fit

You can use the Define Substitutes tool to automatically replace non-intersectable elements - for example, lamps in a reflected ceiling - with other, intersectable elements in boundary areas (also see the example).

To modify pattern definitions and define substitute elements

1. Click Define Substitutes. A preview of the pattern definition you want to change is now attached to the crosshairs. Place the pattern definition.
2. Click the element to be replaced.
3. In the selection form, select the element that will replace the element you just clicked in the pattern definition.
4. Confirm your selection. The Smart Fit dialog box closes:
5. Place the element.
6. Press ESC to quit the tool.
