Defining patterns

Tool(s): Element for Fit

Patterns are defined based on existing elements.

The Default path (\Default\samples) contains the data provided by Nemetschek. Data in this path cannot be modified. You should therefore create or select a file in a different path – office, private – to save your own, user-defined patterns.

To define a new pattern

  1. Click Element for Fit (How).
  2. In the Pattern tab, click Select.

The Path Settings dialog box opens.

  3. Select a folder - private, office - and a file or
    create a new file.
  4. Click OK to confirm the settings.
  5. To enter a pattern in the list, click again in the Smart Fit dialog box and enter a name (press ENTER to confirm).
  6. In the next dialog box, select an element that is to be a part of the new pattern.
  7. Click OK to confirm the selection form.
  8. Place the element in the workspace as often as you need.
You can change the reference point as you do so.
  9. Press ESC to finish entering the first element.

The last dialog box is displayed again.

  10. To select further elements, repeat steps 6 through 9 and
    then press ESC to finish.

The Smart Fit dialog is displayed again. The new pattern is displayed in the list and can now be placed.

Note: The Default path (\Default\samples) contains the data provided by Nemetschek. Data in this path cannot be modified. Although you can select elements, you cannot change them or modify, save or delete attributes.
If you want to edit the data provided by Nemetschek, open ProjectPilot (File menu) and drag the data to a different path, for example Office or Private. This copies the data. This is only possible if the destination path includes the Smart Fit folder. The Office and Private paths come with this folder. The program automatically creates this folder in a project as soon as you define and save an element.
