Define Placement Rules

Tool(s): Element for Fit

The ”placement rule” lets you define the position of the individual elements relative to one another; in other words whether the joints, for example, are offset or continuous. To do this, two direction specifications or vectors are required in the region (also see example).

To define a placement rule for an element

  1. You have already selected an element or pattern in the Smart Fit dialog box and defined a region in which it is to be placed.
  2. Symbol’s base point
Place the element (a preview of the element is attached to the crosshairs) in the workspace.
  3. Placement rule - First base point
    Click the first base point.
This is the start point of the first vector with which the element is to be copied.
  4. Placement rule - First direction point
    Enter the first direction point.
3 sections are displayed. These were copied in the direction of the first vector.
  5. Placement rule - Second base point
    Enter the second base point.
A preview of the 3 elements is displayed attached to the crosshairs.
  6. Placement rule - Second direction point
    Enter the second direction point.
A preview of the original element and the copies in the direction of the two vectors is now attached to the crosshairs.
  7. Symbol’s base point
The preview is now attached to the crosshairs at the symbol base point defined under (1).
Place the elements as you want.
  8. The elements are placed in the region.
