Introduction

Module(s): Smart Fit

The Smart Fit module allows you to generate your own intelligent placement algorithms for a variety of different design tasks - for example, tiling, suspended ceilings, facades and so on.
Both the elements to be placed (fit) and the placement rules are user-definable. You can also combine different elements to make a placement pattern. These patterns, in turn, may be assigned their own placement rules.

In addition to placing elements orthogonally, you have numerous other options. With the "Fit to Outline" option, you can place elements in such a way that they follow the outline of polylines. These outlines may consist of single lines, polylines and circles, or combinations thereof.

These can be assigned attributes – price, manufacturer, item number etc. – that are used in subsequent reports and analyses.
All elements can be assigned their own intersection conditions. Thus, you can define whether and when an element can be intersected or not. These intersection conditions not only apply to the region in which the elements are placed but also to the way the elements behave when used within a pattern.

You can even replace specific non-intersectable pattern elements with other elements. For example, you might replace a non-intersectable fanlight with intersectable slab elements.

Using placement rules you can even influence the manner in which the elements intersect the placement region (the area in which the elements are placed) - for example, in such a manner that a remaining closed polyline is generated. This, in turn, can be fitted with new elements/patterns using new placement rules.

As with lists and schedules, placements can be saved in different folders The Default path (\Default\samples) contains the data provided by Nemetschek. Data in this path cannot be modified. Although you can select elements, you cannot change them or modify, save or delete attributes. You can save your own placements in the Office, Private or Project folder.

Note: If you want to edit the data provided by Nemetschek, open ProjectPilot (File menu) and drag the data to a different path, for example Office or Private. This copies the data. This is only possible if the destination path includes the Smart Fit folder. The Office and Private paths come with this folder. The program automatically creates this folder in a project as soon as you define and save an element.

You can choose the path by clicking Selection in the Smart Fit dialog box. You can also create or delete your own subfolders for better orientation.

Individual elements, patterns or placements can be copied, deleted or renamed using the tools in ProjectPilot (File menu).
