Perpendicular to surface, plane

You can use the Perpendicular to Surface, Plane tool to drop a perpendicular to a plane or a surface.

To drop a perpendicular to a plane or a surface

1. Click Perpend. to Surface, Plane (How).
   

   Activate Perpend. to Surface, Plane in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Bonus Tools 3D Modeling

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   3D Modeling

2. Define the surface onto which the perpendicular is to be dropped in one of the following ways:
   • Specify 3 corners.
   • Specify 2 edges.
   • Specify an edge and a corner.
3. Define the perpendicular in one of the following ways:
   • specify a point from which the perpendicular is to be dropped.
   • specify the base point (point on plane or surface) and define the length of the perpendicular by entering another point.
   • enter the length of the perpendicular and then either a point through which the perpendicular is to pass, or the base point (point on plane or surface) and a direction point.
     

     The program expects you to specify a direction point when the position of an element in 3D space has not been defined explicitly.

     To enter direction points, do the following:

     • Click in an elevation or isometric viewport to enter the direction above or below an element.
     • Click an existing point in an elevation or isometric viewport. The direction is defined based on its Y and/or Z coordinate.
     • When you click a point in plan view, its Z coordinate is not used.
       You can use the Brackets tool and Delta Point to enter a Z coordinate for this point.
