Ruled solid

Module(s): 3D Modeling

You can use the Ruled Solid tool to create a ruled solid from two 3D surfaces. The surfaces do not have to be parallel or congruent and can have openings. However, the two surfaces must have the following properties:

• They must have the same number of edges
• Corresponding edges must lie on the same plane

To draw a ruled solid

• Draw the surfaces to be joined first.

1. Click Ruled Solid (How).
   

   Activate Ruled Solid in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Bonus Tools 3D Modeling

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   3D Modeling

   

   Ruled solid with opening:
   (A) Surface 1
   (B) Surface 2

2. Click an edge on the first surface.
3. Click another edge on the first surface.

   Note: The two edges must intersect and may not form a straight line.

4. Enter the second surface in the same way.

   Note: The edges on the second surface must correspond to those on the 1st surface and must lie in the same plane.

5. If the surface has openings, select an edge for each opening. The edges of the openings must also each lie in the same plane.

   A new 3D solid is generated.
