Solid of Revolution

Module(s): 3D Modeling

You can use the Solid of Revolution tool to create solids by revolving a profile about an axis.

To create a solid of revolution

1. Click Solid of Revolution (How).
   

   Activate Solid of Revolution in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Bonus Tools 3D Modeling

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   3D Modeling

2. Select the 3D entities which form the profile you want to revolve (the profile must be planar but does not have to be closed).
3. Set the first point of the axis of rotation.
4. Set the second point of the axis of rotation.

   Note: Bear in mind that the axis of rotation must lie in the same plane as the profile and that it must not intersect the profile.

5. Enter the number of segments.

   The value you enter here is based on a rotation of 360 degrees. With a smaller angle of rotation, the solid will consist of correspondingly fewer segments.

6. Enter the angle of rotation.
7. Specify whether you want the program to merge adjoining surfaces.

   

   (A) Plan
   (B) Elevation
   (C) Isometric view
   (D) Solid of revolution, adjoining surfaces are not merged
   (E) Solid of revolution, adjoining surfaces are merged
