Location optimization (with Allplan vector drivers)

When location optimization is enabled, layouts are rotated by 90 degrees when this results in reduced paper consumption. This feature is only available with Allplan vector drivers and certain output channels (e.g., HP DesignJet). With Windows drivers, this feature is enabled within the driver itself and can be set there. The feature is not available with all drivers.

Allplan vector drivers are printer drivers supplied with Allplan and are available for certain devices. To use Allplan vector drivers, you need to define at least one output channel in the Services application.

A printer driver is a program that translates graphical commands into control characters (e.g., HPGL, PostScript) for a particular printer. You can use Windows drivers or Allplan vector drivers (in connection with output channels) as printer drivers in Allplan.

To optimize the location using Allplan vector drivers

1. Click Set Up Page (How).
   

   Activate Set Up Page in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Layout

   • Toolbar: Basic Tools Layout flyout
   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Layout

2. In the Page area, select the paper format of the printer or large-format printer.

   Note: When you are using paper rolls, select A0 Roll.
   If you specify over-length paper formats of which the dimensions do not match any predefined format, [User-defined format] appears in the box.

3. Place the layout border, label and the documents at bottom left on the inner border.
4. Select location optimization as follows:
5. Click Print Layouts (How).

   Assembling layouts

6. Go to the Settings area on the Printer tab and select Allplan vector driver.
7. Select the CAD optimize location check box in the More settings list box.
8. Click Start to print the layout

   The layout is rotated by 90 degrees if

   • all the elements (documents, border) you have placed fit into the paper format after being rotated.
   • this leads to reduced paper consumption when printing to a continuous roll of paper.
